I picked up mine from members at the GSAS meetings and from craigslist
postings.  The seem to eat whatever I drop in the tank, veggies, flakes,
worm bits, or worm castings (when I'm fertilizing).

The cherries are a nice bright red, breed readily in a planted tank and
seem to take care of themselves for the most part.  They're less than an
inch long, so most of them are hiding at any particular time, but now
(from my original 20 or 30) there are so many I can usually see several
dozen of various sizes out at once.
