June Olberding taught me to put crushed coral in my filter when I run CO2. I have discus and plants in my tanks and have no problem with it. The only problem I have now is that my four discus are as big as my hand now, and I probably have too many other fish besides them, so keeping the algae down now that I have ripped out the micro-sword carpet is a challenge. I think a small piece of cuttlebone or some shells is a good idea with the shrimp. Oh, and I have two discus that lay eggs every time I do big water changes in the tank where I have a cup of crushed coral in the filter. I have done a bit of research and found that many folks deem it unnecessary unless I am breeding snail. Shrimp somehow don't need it..or do they. I am not very confident in the sources I have come across. Do any of you have good experience with this debate that you could share? And also, what is Cuttlebone? No one explains what exactly this mysterious stuff is.
