I'd add that iron seems to be a popular micro nutrient issue.   I think
people often use some clay in their substrates because of the iron
content-- I don't have clay in my yard, so I use additives. Maybe throw a
few non-stainless nails in the tank, some worm castings, or a low dose of
micro nutrient fertilizer.  I suppose different conditions might lock out
different types of things, so your mileage may vary...

Outside of that the only thing I would guess could be the issue is pH. 
(unless you mentioned that and I missed it?)  CO2 additions can often
cause dramatic swings in the tank's pH that could in turn cause nutrient
lockouts.  (so even if the nutrient is there, it may be unavailable for
the plant?)
