I had great luck when I put a layer of peat down before the gravel/sand mixture with my plants growing well. My Amazons did great. I?ve also thought of doing a dirt tank bottom, even just a light layer of ¼?. Of course it can be messy, but all my plants did well. I noticed my Crypts melted when they were disturbed, OR when there was too great of a pH change, such as the in CO2 injected shrimp tank with a 60% or more water change. I?ve heard an iron deficiency can make the leaves look spotty or yellowish? I wonder if anyone has tried burying some rusty nails in the substrate. I have a really bossy female discus that won?t let the other female discus lay her eggs and eats them. She is a really beautiful heavily blue-veined fish about the size of my hand spread out. I was wondering if someone has a known male discus I could trade her for. Both female fish are gorgeous, but I kind of like the yellow and red in the smaller one, and she has a yellow eye, so would like to keep her. I also have three fat female cory schwartii and was wondering if anyone had a male they would like to exchange for a female.
