Have you got a population name to go with that gardneri? Mamfense? Jos Plateau? Rayfield? Misaje? ... As for females 'bursting' - killies lay a few eggs each day and don't need the male present to lay them, though the eggs won't be fertile without a male. They don't work like cichlids or tetras or w.h.y.. You should normally expect to get a few eggs/day from your typical killie (some lay quite a few - well conditioned female nothobranchius can easily lay 40+ eggs in a day.) Killies are 'continuous' spawners when you have a pair, and there's little or no courtship nor any nest building - find a suitable spot, lay eggs, move on, repeat, take breaks for eating and what not. They do this throughout their lifespans. > Date: Sat, 23 Feb 2008 18:23:26 -0800> From: clifford@clevergeek.com> To: > gsas-member@thekrib.com> Subject: [GSAS-Member] Extra male gardneri?> > > I > was planning on moving my gardneri killies to a new tank today, and my> male > seems to have mysteriously disappeared.> > I'm still hoping he'll turn up, as > he seemed pretty scrappy, but in the> mean time, I have a female that's about > to burst she's so full of eggs,> and no male.> > If anyone has a mature male > they'd like to sell (or trade, I have plenty> of extra cherry shrimp and > peacock gudgeons), I'd appreciate it.
