Re: [GSAS-Member] Whither Excel?

Hi Phil and Laurel,

You might try Denny's Pet World in Kirkland, call first and ask for Seachem
Flourish Excel. I was at A Place for Pets in Burien yesterday and they had
one or two bottles on the shelf. Tom indicated further down on this thread
that Midway had it for $8.99 for 8.5 ounces which is a good price at LFS (my
LFS charged over $10 for the same size). With the high dosage I was using,
I used up most of my 8.5 ounces bottle in the week of treatment for my 45
gallon tank. If I were to do it over, I might try the lower rate
recommended by Luis and used by Erik and Larry and figure a two week
treatment period. I am putting together an order for equipment for the 30 I
am setting up and buying Excel 16.9 ounce at Thatfishplace.com for $8.49
since it will not affect my shipping cost for the other stuff I am ordering.

I am still doing a maintenance treatment on my tank. No Hair Algae, BBA, or
Staghorn Algae has reappeared in the last few days. I have not changed
anything in my tank (fert dosing, light duration, water changes) and other
than algae on the glass all other algae in my tank is gone. I am pleased
with the results so far.

Here are a couple of good links concerning Excel and its active ingredient,
glutaraldehyde, if you are interested:
