Generally I see people using them for brackish and (low?) salt sumps because they are fairly salt tolerant, coming from inter-tidal salt marshes and bogs... Kind of like using willow shoots to kill green water...the nutrient draw is so strong, there's nothing left for the algae. I've never known anyone that's kept a mangrove past 2 feet or so (and usually they're sold at 6" to 1'). You need plenty of light on your sump/tank to keep them going even that long-- hard to keep a decent sized tree hidden away in your reef stand. All in all, very cool plants, but too hard for me...
