Some years back we DID have a tour of the UW fish collection. Yes, they are preserved. Ted Pietsch of the UW gave us the tour and talked to us about the Anglerfish that he researches. He is in the news now because of a new species of Anglerfish that he is describing: http://marine-life.suite101.com/article.cfm/new_species_of_angler_fish_found It is interesting to see the stuff that real ichthyologists work with. The rolling shelves are worth going to see.
