This fish (hogchoker, Trinectes maculates) is from coastal SE US around to the Gulf of Mexico. They are estuarine fishes than can live in full fresh to full salt water. They do best with at least some salt in their tank water. They like a substrate of fine sand. -----Original Message----- From: gsas-member-bounces@thekrib.com [mailto:gsas-member-bounces@thekrib.com] On Behalf Of carrera206 Sent: Sunday, September 21, 2008 11:04 AM To: gsas-member@thekrib.com Subject: [GSAS-Member] Freshwater flounder I picked up six of these "freshwater flounders" at The Fish Store yesterday for $4 each. They are approx 1 1/2-2" long right now. The salesperson said that they are a purely freshwater species however I suspect that they probably require brackish water (at least as adults). Can anyone help me to specifically identify these guys? Photos at: http://gallery.me.com/carrera206/100076 Thanks in advance.
