Just curious if any other GSAS'ers have taken the saltwater plunge since
hearing Phil's talk?
I'm getting ready to re-seal the new (very old) 90 gallon tank I picked up
last week, which is going to use my 50 gallon as a sump/refugium (I hope).
Today I picked up 50lbs of live rock, a nice big bucket of live sand, and
about three buckets of random goodies from craigslist. Still looking for
a skimmer...
Unfortunately it appears many of the critters didn't make it through being
compacted in the sand bucket (which is where the sand was when I got
there)...but there are at least a few super-tough little crabs and snails
that successfully ran the gauntlet.
One of the random goodies is a very sparsely labeled ballast with an
18-pin "quick connect". It says 4x48, which I assume means four
fluorescent tubes? I'm guessing that's not enough for fancy corals, but
it's a start. (the guy had said it would work with a variety of lighting
types...I had always thought ballasts were specific to the type of
light/bulb?) Any ideas about where to search for the bulb caps that
attach to the quick connect? (ie, pet shop vs. lightning supply?)
Cliff
