Bryan, You're right, it is a nice looking plant and it's easy to grow. That is what makes it so attractive to the aquarium and water garden communities. As long as we as a community are responsible with it there is no reason that we couldn't continue growing it. The danger is that the plant is fast growing and can be propagated from a very small cutting or piece that gets broken off while trimming or cutting other plants. The Okanagan Lake and surrounding waterways are infested with this stuff. I've seen what it does to the local ecology and recreational use of the water. It was first introduced to the mid 70's and had grown to take over a quarter of the 153 square miles of the lake before control efforts were started in '79. http://www.ilec.or.jp/database/nam/nam-51.html I have some invasive species in my tanks too.
