Hi Shango, I try to replace my "cool whites" annually, as they do become significantly less effective for growing plants. Some of this has to do with PAR wattage-- not all of the light in our visible spectrum is usable to the plants (who mostly focus on red and blue), so after a few years the light can still look really bright to us, and do almost nothing for the plant. That's why some of those "super plant lights" barely look on, but do well with the plants. I don't use them because they're so much more expensive than regular bulbs (which also work well), but they demonstrate the point. Have you stopped into the indoor sun shoppe? In your neighborhood these days I think, and a fun place to pick up interesting lighting tips. (and overly expensive toys you don't need...)
