I think I paid $20 per bag (around the size of a bag of fancy coffee), and
bought several bags online at a pond site. It feels like ceramic and
doesn't change water hardness, but I have seen reports of people
experiencing raises in copper levels when first using new media--
obviously this isn't the best thing ever for your inverts (if you have
them), so I'd add with caution if you're keeping sensitive critters. I
did kill a whole tank full of amano shrimp when I first set mine up, but I
never tested for copper, so I'm unsure if that was the root cause.
