I never check anything on my shrimp tank. Are you running CO2? Then it's 
especially important to add calcium. It shouldn't harm anything. I'm not sure 
what it does to plants, but mine always seem to do well.

Brilliant! 

So the calcium just becomes part of the water then and the shrimp absorb it. 

Will the calcium change my other chemistry? ÂDo I need to watch it for 
anything unique?
