How funky is the water getting? If what's left when you do the
thaw/strain move is too disgusting, I'd switch brands.
I make my own now, and just drop it in frozen. If you have a freezer,
blender, and a couple of cookie sheets, you can buy and make a year's
worth (well, for the fish I'm feeding) of high quality fish food from
central market for under $20 in about two beers. Err, I mean...less than
an hour?
Side note regarding live food-- I was down at Twin Ponds park in Shoreline
the other day, and there were more daphnia kicking around than I'd ever
seen anywhere before. I ran a small dipnet through one of the "clouds"
and it came out relatively full-- I would guess a half-cup or more in one
swipe. That's A LOT of daphnia.
