I got a nice 29 gallon Eclipse tank with the hood at a garage sale last year and finally put it up. For the substrate I put the Amano Amazonia stuff from our auction, reusing it from the previous tank, then some black course Flourite, and for the top layer, black Flourite sand. I replanted all the Crypts (lutea, walkeri, and the big one from our plant auction.) which all almost totally melted away. Then I added the Madagascar Lace Plant which had taken over the 20 gallon shrimp tank, which I had under a 175-watt halide (thanks to another member). The leaves grew to be 2.5 long and 4" wide, no C02, by the way and packed the tank making it hard to catch any shrimp without damaging the plant. Now I'm worried that the lace plant will die because the Eclipse has only 36-watts and I want to retrofit the lights. Denny's has a 65-watt with the wrong type light (50/50), 24". I'm not sure what to do on this odyssey to find better lighting for this tank and keep the nice black Eclipse hood. I'm not using the filter, so it's possible to cut out that chamber area for another light. Right now I have the old Eclipse light fixture from the smaller tank just sitting in the filter area lid to provide additional light. I'm selling the tank and stand at a garage sale right now, but everyone wants the hood, which I would be glad to provide if I could find a better lighting solution for the 29-gallon. Anyone have something that would work or know where to find a light that does? SmartLite doesn't make the retrofit kit anymore, which is what got me into doing lighting and electrical wiring a few years ago. I would be glad to pay for it or trade the old tank. Hello Lights has 10% off right now but they are clueless as what to do about the Eclipse hood.
