I consider that one of the great advantage of the LED are the fact that their wavelenght can match the chlorophyll a or b absorbtion spectra peaks ( http://www.biologie.uni-hamburg.de/b-online/e24/3.htm ;) making them very efficient. Lately I've found on ebay some lights which are pretty cheap and some of them use red and blue LED which wavelengts are very close to chlorophyll a or b absorbtion spectra peaks. I don't want to mention any seller, but if you search under "LED GROW LIGHT" you will find a lot of options.
