Re: [GSAS-Member] Big Tank Suggestions

Instead of thinking about a school ,of big fish you might consider one fish
that will get large (a smart good-looking fish that will be a pet and a
showpiece) and then a school of medium sized fish to go with it. I envision
something like a Chocolate cichlid (pretty mellow and not too bad with plants)
and a school of Turquoise Rainbows (Melanotaenia lacustris) which will grow to
4 or 5 inches and turn a nice metallic turquoise color. As an added accent you
might throw in some bright red fish like swordtails or a couple of your male
Odessa barbs - they would also act as cleanup fish and maybe nibble some algae.
Want something even bigger? Try the Arulius barbs or Tinfoils.

Paul,

The pacu sounds like it might be an interesting choice. Especially
since they would make a good dinner if they got too big. Maybe I should
raise a couple for the picnic in the summer?
