Shango dropped off the light fixture yesterday, and I took a peek at it.
There was a small amount of corrosion on the endcap, but not enough to
indicate a serious problem. (Photo attached for your entertainment.) So I
scraped it off, re-attached everything, and turned it on. The arcing and
hissing came from the FILAMENT inside the bulb, not from anything outside.
This was clearly a bad bulb or one whose filament was nearing end-of-life.
So I packaged it back up and suggested Shango buy a new bulb.

Hi Shango,
I think we have some spare end caps. Are you bringing the fixture
to the next meeting or just hooking
up with Erik? I will bring our spare
parts to the next meeting just in case you need them. I have lots, Mary shops
Craigs List and sometimes I
get stuck fixing up pieces of junk. :)
