I've never noticed anything. I ran 2 canisters with activated carbon: http://kangar.eu/pics/large/DSCN3645.JPG . Mostly for smell because it was a pond, in theory. I never noticed any c02 being removed, and had digitial equipment monitoring it. It defiantly will remove ferts, as mentioned. I never noticed anything about phosphorus, the biggest issue I ran into was keeping KH stable. That was the big killer of my plants staying healthy, besides the koi. You think silver dollars are bad....
