For what it's worth, I ran a very nice UGF on my 90gal planted for years and years, with regular aquarium gravel, and grew all manner of plants. But when we had the big club buy on Turface (or whatever that stuff was) a couple years back, I removed the UGF and the gravel, and the root growth into the actual filter plates wasn't that bad at all. I took it out more because I didn't want the fine grains of the new sub to get in there and much things up, so now I run straight Turface (or whatever) with a big HOB filter and a Fluval 404, and the plants are doing as fine if not finer than they did with the UGF. YMMV, of course :-) Phil _______________________________________________ GSAS-Member mailing list GSAS-Member@thekrib.com http://lists.thekrib.com/mailman/listinfo/gsas-member
