As far as I can tell, a PC is similar to a T5 folded back on itself, and a T5HO is that but overdriven for a little more light per watt. So I should get a lot more usable light into the tank with a T5HO fixture that fits my top better. That makes it look even tastier. Thought the light is a secondary bonus... what I am really trying to fix is how I gotta move one strip off the tank to open the hood more than a crack! Holy moly, a $180 fixture that meets my specs (4x54W, and not deep) and they'll give you any spectrum bulbs you want: http://www.catalinaaquarium.com/product_info.php?products_id=1630 These Catalina Solar fixtures have a pretty good reputation, and this silver one is $100 less than the nearly identical black one. If I can sell my PC hoods, even cheap, the cost to upgrade would really be pretty decent. And if 4 T5 HOs is too much light, as some say, I can always run it with 3 bulbs. I gotta sleep on it!
