Re: [GSAS-Member] The GSAS HomeShow 2010!!!!! It is Time to Register!

Very well said, Shango. As I mentioned to Roy last week, I always likened the home show to a sort of "GSAS Magazine" showcasing what different members are doing. I first learned about the cuttlebone trick from seeing Shango's House of Shrimp(tm) at the last home show. So I'd especially like to ask the folks who DIDN'T enter last May to sign up.

Thanks Roy for getting the ball rolling.

I would like to add to Roy's call for participants.

Do not misinterpret this event as solely a contest. It is fun to have a bit of competition amongst friends when we all spend the whole year supporting each other in learning and growing and breeding, however, this is not just a competition. This is a chance for everyone else in the club to see what you have been up to, how far you have come and hopefully spread some fresh ideas. This is not an event only for "Show Tanks."

I have recently been asking some of the folks in the club if I could come by and visit because I know that I have alot to learn. So far, I have learned at least a few important things from everyone I have visited. I wish I could show all of you the amazing 45 Gallon trash can with heaters that John Clouse has so that his water change water is stable and perfect every time. It is simple and elegant and pretty darn hardcore to have. Roy uses his HOB filter as a CO2 reactor! These are the kinds of things that also make the HOME SHOW fun. We all have little things we do, little workarounds, little flashes of brilliance that we can all learn from if you open up your home for the HOME SHOW. Even if you are a beginner and have a modest tank, let us share in your experience to remind ourselves of starting out too. Take an opportunity to participate. Besides, it feels really good to have someone like Roy (or Steev or this year I think Mary is a judge) say nice things about your hard work while a picture of your tank is on the overhead projector.

The club only exists because people like you and me choose to make it something vibrant. If you have been looking for something to help the club, participating to make the HOME SHOW great is a good place to start. If you are a friendly lurker on the list, this would be a great time to put a face with your name and get involved.

This is an open invitation to share your love of your aquarium with a bunch of other people who are fish geeks too. Don't worry, we all have disheveled and messy homes after the holidays. The pictures are only of your tanks. =)

Hi All,

Today is the official start of the GSAS HomeShow 2010! The HomeShow visits
to member homes will be the weekend of 1/30/10 - 1/31/10. If we have more
members wanting to participate than we can visit in the two days allotted we
will add additional dates. If you have not participated in the GSAS HomeShow
in the past you have missed out on a lot of fun! Here is a link
http://www.gsas.org/homeshow.html to previous GSAS HomeShow contests so you
can see what you have missed. (It is also a good way to see what some of
the previous entries and winners looked like!) Judging will be in three
categories for this year's contest: General; Breeder; and Planted
aquariums. Aquariums will be judged on overall aquarium appearance; health
of fish; and if a Planted aquarium aquascape design, health of plants, and
plant type difficulty.

If you would like to participate the deadline to register is Sunday, January
17th. Please e-mail me at Seattle_Aquarist@Comcast.net with the following
information to register:
1) Your name
2) Your address (So we can plan our route)
3) Phone Number (So I can contact you with questions; we also call when
enroute you your home to let you know we are coming)
4) E-mail address
5) The number of aquariums you would like to have judged; the gallons of
each of those aquariums; and in what category that you would like to enter
each tank (only one category per aquarium entered please).

We have several members who have volunteered to be judges. If you would
like to be a judge please e-mail me at Seattle_Aquarist@Comcast.net. I will
be contacting prospective judges this week. This event is great fun (and an
excellent excuse to clean aquariums). THERE WILL BE PRIZES; DON'T MISS OUT!

Roy
