Re: [GSAS-Member] Jeff finally got his first stingray!

Will do; Hardest part is getting them to start eating; after that it’s a cake walk; right now he’s buried himself in the sand on the bottom; wife accidently turned on the bright plant lights instead of letting the timers do their trick and scared the bejesus out of him this am; takes a very large tank to keep rays and that’s why they have the rep of being hard to keep; people put them in little 100 gallon tanks and expect them to survive; my 260g is barely big enough and I will have to upgrade within about two years; rays produce tremendous amounts of ammonia due to their physiological makeup so you need a massive amount of water to dilute it and tons of filtration; something to do with the lack of a salt gland which they lost when they migrated from salt to fresh water; very beautiful graceful creatures though; very peaceful!

Please keep us informed how this goes.  Doesn’t seem to be a very common choice in the wet-pet world, and I’m curious how care intensive it’s going to be.
