Re: Criteria & Selection Mechanics

David's (Nestor10) commnets regarding the difficulties which will face the
Judges mesh nicely into the next stage of our journey. But before we get
there, I would like to explain _why_ the free-wheeling discussions of weeks
past were curtailed.

This project is BIG, and Karen, as Chair of the AGA, in one message clearly
encourage us in the width of our scope (I believe it was during our
discussions over "plant only" vs. "anything goes"). While I enjoy
brainstorming an idea with a group of enthusiastic people as much as the
next, it was becoming clear that there were widely divergent views held as
to the basic underlying idea of the event. Some wanted a small "plant only"
event, others (maybe it was only _me_) wanted to open it up and allow all
types of freshwater aquascapes to be entered. Things were threatening to get
chaotic as there were numerous things being discussed at the same time.

Eric suggested that we stop for a second and decide on a few basic
underlying principles - perhaps formulate a "mission statement", which we
could use as a guide post around which we could all focus and allow us to
move forward together.

Sounded like a good idea, so we did just that - please see the "Project
Description / Common Goals" section of the web-site.

I them put forward an Agenda of points I felt needed to be addressed and
reviewed the archives to see what common points had been previously
discussed - those have been posted to the relelvant pages of the web-site.
Much STILL needs to be discussed, but can only be addressed properly if done
in some kind of order.

We did have some discussions about the nature of submissions and I passed
the "technical" side of that discussion to Erik to formulate some
guidelines. His comments are posted on the web-site under "Submission Tips".
