Re: Judging Process

"I guess I don't really think it's that important. I tend to think we can
divide up the load evenly no matter how many judges we have, even if it's
not a multiple of three. I don't think we need to worry
about the panel being different cross-category as they're not competing
with each other. For best of show, I beleive the judges all need to
vote and concur."

I agree that we should be able to be fair to the judges (making sure that no
one is having to do more "work" than another) by the way we divide it up.
But my main concern with this suggestion is to be fair to the entrants. I
feel that the same set of judges should look at the small, medium and large
entries of each type - that way any personal bias or approach on the part of
the judges is applied evenly to all entrants in that TYPE of tank. While
they are not competing directly with one another (small, medium, large),
they ARE dealing with the same TYPE of tank, and i think that the same set
of judges should look at each of the sizes (unless of course, someone wants
to argue the other side - that all small tanks, regardless of type, be
looked at by one set of judges, and another set looks at the medium tanks,
etc.).

Its a small effort on our part which could save us major headaches later
(been there, made the mistake, swore to never make it again.....). Granted,
this opinion is based on running "Competitions" for job promotions in the
Civil Service, but the fairness principles are the same in any competitive
process.

I totally agree regarding Best of Show - ALL the judges should be involved
in this.

I'd like to know what others who have had experience evaluating competitions
(not only fish shows) think of this as well before any decisions are made.
