I'm here. Just trying to formulate a response.
Very quickly, going based on strictly the score is not a viable option based
on the difference in judging as has been stated. This was clearly evident
in last year's contest. I don't think the best of show would be won best of
show if based on scores alone. I may be wrong, but I remember that for some
reason. In the end, the best approach is still based on the method used.
Although James' tank wasn't my top choice, it was still one of the tanks I
scored quite high if my memory serves me. I think taken overall,
considering all of the judges scores and rank, his tank deserved the best of
show. However, I don't think his tank necessarily represented what others
in the contest or at the AGA felt like was the best of show. For that
reason alone, I think that things need to be changed at this year's contest.
I heard from a number of people that they thought this tank or that tank
deserved to be ranked or ranked higher. Generally, the same tank was
mentioned multiple times.
There is not an easy solution for judging and based on my experiences and
criticisms from last year, I'd be reluctant to do so again. However, I
think we need to find a equitable way for judging that encompasses all of
the styles and preferences in some manner or another. I also don't think
redundancy in judges is fair as was evidenced last year. I think Eric knows
what I refer to.
