RE: [AGA-Contest] Re: AGA-Contest Digest, Vol 12, Issue 4

Karen,

Thank you so much for these encouraging words. I am also really happy to be at the University of Chicago, which serves just an amazing hospital (truly, it must be one of the best). I am currently under treatment with a slew of tablets taken several times during the day at night. Although there are some sideeffects, I am already starting to feel much better than last week Thursday (.. it has only been a week...).

It is just so strange to look back at all things that had been happening from then till now. How I was always sleepy and tired, how I had no energy, felt depressed, and just not at all like myself. I am also amazed that I am already starting to function like a normal human being. I am very hopeful.

As for the contest, I have already judged all the aquascapes and left commentary to about 60 out of the top ~120 or so. I gave commentary mostly to the top 10-15 spots in each category, because I think people who try to work on their tanks harder should get something insightful. :)

All paludariums and biotopes got commentary because it is so new, and no one seems to know how to make really good ones (especially the biotopes!). This is why I have setup a Malay stream 5g biotope cube. I have 3 Parosphromenus deissneri and a dozen Boraras maculata, biotopically correct plants (just Crypt cordaa var blassii, driftwood, and sand along the front. The whole thing is framed by an Amano-like driftwood fan. I am excited. :)

Carlos,

I'm very sorry to hear that! You'll be in my prayers. Karen's news is very encouraging, keep fighting!

Oh, Carlos, I'm so sorry to hear that. My cousin had the same problem, as did a good friend of mine. With my cousin, they were able to "just" remove it surgically. My friend's was much larger, and involved the optic nerves. She had to have radiation for some time before the shrunk it enough to operate. So I know how grueling treatment can be.

If it is any comfort, _BOTH_ of them are now doing fine. My cousin had his surgery a year ago, and my friend is almost 4 years post-surgery. Hang in there.

And as far as the comments are concerned, there is no REQUIREMENT that you leave a comment on every tank. Do the ones where you think you have the most to say, and skip the rest. Particularly under these circumstances, people will understand!

Sounds good to me! Sorry, I have not been able to finish half the
commentary. I will try, but I am current;y under treatment for a pituitary
gland tumor in my brain and, well, it's been tough....

We've sort of converged on November 9th as the date to reveal the contest winners. Why? I'm not sure; it's not a weekend date or anything, but but people keep using that date for a couple other projects the AGA is working on, so it's as good as any. In celebration of this monumentous decision,
I've changed the banner to the contest's penultimate graphic. :)
