I agree that Dave's note was not appropriate in tone, and I'm glad you
wrote back.  I know he's been, shall we say, "gruff" with people that need
a little more hand holding than most.  

I don't know quite what the answer is other than damage control.  He's
willing taken on a pretty big job, and I'm not sure we have a replacement
for him.  We can afford to lose Dennerle more than we can afford to lose
him right now.

If any of you have any other suggestion on how the situation can (should)
be handled, please share your ideas.
