Re: Communication (fwd)

Hi guys.

Message from Dave. Not sure if it's supposed to go to the MC, but it's
relevant.

Again, holding back replying. I really don't want to continue in these
discussions, because he's pushing me in a direction of bringing things out
that are best not. I would rather hear people who WANT this PAM deal thing
to succeed doing the talking, rather than me.

I have been thinking a lot about what you said. I think there is a
fundamental difference in how we are looking at this suggestion.

To me the suggestion is: Should AGA give PAM to its members?

To you the suggestion is: Should AGA get involved in PAM?

I assume you agree that I have the option to say that AGA would not be
permitted to control PAM. I could refuse to sell AGA stock. That would
result in an AGA option to provide or not provide that magazine to its
members, and just that.

I don't see why my saying that AGA can buy in or not as it thinks that is a
good idea would make the decision harder? I would think AGA would be best
off not investing initially, then if AGA thought it liked PAM it MIGHT
elect to buy stock to exert more editorial control. But the main sources
of control arise from:

1. AGA has some pretty smart and knowledgeable folks as members/officers.
2. If AGA subscribes 900 folks, it is going to get a lot of say because it
controls 900 subs.

Pretty clearly, I don't care if I get 900 subs at $12 thru AGA or 500 subs
at $20. And getting 500 subs is beginning to look easier.

I don't want to hurt AGA, but it is beginning to look like it has a death
wish. I want to help and be part of the improvement of the AGA, but it
seems like AGA is determined to fight and win/lose. What is wrong with
just deciding whether PAM is a good deal for AGA members or not????
