OK, I'm still settling in on how often to keep after everyone here. I'm going to try to do this maybe once a week. The hot issue is getting the bylaws drafted. To recap Mary's note (http://lists.thekrib.com/aga-mcm/msg00986.html): * Can the MC vote, or is it just the SC? * How are committee members elected? (General membership?) So far, Mary has voiced her opinion on some of the 2nd issue. Nobody has voiced an opinion on the first. My opinion on the first issue: I see the MC as evolving into a group representing (at least including) heads of all the different active (or hopefully active) projects of the AGA, and the primary purpose of this group is to communicate back and forth about these issues, and advise each other. By keeping the MC as non-voting, we can bring in a variety of people onto the MC more or less "immediately" because they are performing an important high-level function in the AGA, without having to debate over whether they have been here long enough to have any sort of voting status. It would have made the debate over bringing in the most recent folks TRIVIAL and quick. OK, so if we did this, then I assume it would be the Steering Committee that can appoint members of the MC. But how would new members be appointed in the SC? Is it OK for the SC to select (and dispose of, if necessary) its own? I think that's how it works now. I'd like to hear more about how some other organizations do this. - Erik PS: Called John Cogwell about backup TAG on Monday. He seemed stand-offish that I actually CALLED and didn't wait for him to e-mail me, re-assuring me that the art department was working on it and I'd hear from him later that day. Friday I called back again, and he explained that the art department been hit by the famous ILOVEYOU virus (one of which's effects included destroying any image files it can) and they'd blown off all the work until they controlled it. Meanwhile, I've got TAG'94 scanned in. PPS: Without further ado, here's the big list, which I'll be including in these weekly whip-cracks: Task Culprit Phase CONFERENCE Need details for website Charlene Do it Advertise on website Erik Pending Charlene Do periodic updates on APD Karen everyone remind her Advertise elsewhere Mary et. al. Mary Made suggestions Future conferences and regional meetings/speakers tabled with local clubs (discussion around Feb 13th) MANAGEMENT Does MC vote on issues? Entire SC Discussion "Up until the TAG vote, the SC has made all the "major" decisions regarding the AGA. The MC has been more advisory in capacity, as well as, in theory, running various committees. I'm not saying that another model might not be better, just that this is how it has been done up until now. But I think we ALL agree that AGA could stand with some new ways of doing business. I don't have any problem with changing things, but I think we should make some decisions on how we think things _should_ be done, and get it written down in some fashion so that we don't have to reinvent the wheel every time a decision, particularly a contentious one, needs to be made." - Karen INCORPORATION Draft bylaws Bob McCaw ? need to find out ?
