Re: MCM - Digest V1 #307
Folks:
I haven't been able too keep up with the digest for the last couple of weeks,
but I am just starting to catch up. Just a couple of comments:
1. I notice that the letterhead has my address on it. My town is called
"Plympton", not Plymouth - easily confused, especially since we are next to
Plymouth.
It's OK if you want to use my address, but let me know when a lot of
correspondence is expected. I often get too busy to read my mail every day, so
I will have my wife open everything and forward stuff as appropriate. I had
expected to perform the membership duties for a long time (subject to the SC
decisions), and I don't expect to move, so this could be a long-term address
for AGA.
2. I am flexible on whether we should confer voting rights on the membership.
If we have volunteers who will handle it, then by all means I am for it. But
if it just means more work for those already doing other necessary duties, then
forget it. I, for one, cannot go out of my way to coordinate a voting process.
That being said, why couldn't we simply add a ballot to the renewal notices?
Sending these out is a lot of work and a big expense, so why not piggyback a
ballot on the whole process? We could mail them all out once a year, and we
can put expiration dates on them so as not to aggravate people who don't need
to renew.
I am entering so much data on each new member/renewal anyway that tallying the
votes in our database should be a simple matter. Once Paul, David, and I set
up the FileMaker version of the database then I'm sure it will be easier to
tally votes and send out renewal notices/ballots.
Food for thought,
- Jack
PS: One less thing to worry about: Heating oil fumes will not poison fish or
plants in open-topped tanks. Came back from my class to find a leaking oil
tank in the basement. Fortunately the leak was minor but what a stench!
