I thought it was just the opposite.  Basically the DVDs produced by the
Macs are essentially without the commercial copy protection and very easy
to duplicate and burn onto another DVD.  I thought that the big deal was
that they can't be REPLICATED, i.e. mass-produced from a master created by
a DVD-R drive. 

It doesn't really matter anyway, because the commercial copy protection on 
DVDs is a joke.
