I like the idea of having the announcements and a separate focus group with judges, but hate the idea of a Friday night announcement, because (a) not everyone's here yet, and (b) it's one LESS thing to feature as part of the banquet. Hey, maybe there could be a discussion Sunday morning (where we had the traditional "panel") while everyone's setting up the auction...

IF we do the awards as a distinct event, we can spend as long as necessary to cover them -- anyone not interested needn't attend or stay if they get bored. When it's the lead for something like Amano, folks don't want to leave and risk missing part of Amano's presentation even if they are bored with the awards -- although, I can't really understand how anyone interested in growing plants could be bored with the contest :-\ sh --- Karen Randall <krandall@rdrcpa.biz> wrote:Well, at least Ghazanfar can take comfort in the knowledge that he was fairly even handed in his criticizm of all of us.<g> Personally, I've never seen, read or heard Ghazanfar be rude to anyone. It doesn't seem to be his style. And I did try to hand the microphone to other people ;-) On the length of the awards, I had a thought... Some people obviously WANT to learn more about aquascaping through the judges' comments, while others have little or no interest. What about: Do the awards Friday night, and kept it to the bare minimum... maybe not even have the judges up there, but have Erik read some comments as he has some times in the past. Then have one of the focus groups be a chance to go into more detail on the tanks with the judges in a small, informal setting where people can ask more in-depth questions.
