Re: [AGA-mcm] message from Karen to Sean Re: PlantFest

Plantfest day two:

He knew where the park was and the contact with the ranger was probably easy for him to set up, as I bet the guy told him when he was available. Other than that he had no knowledge of the facilities, requirements to rent canoes to 20 people, cost of said canoe rentals, or other little nuances that being in a state park bring to a collecting trip.

Yes, I had fun once we got there and saw the crypt bed. Yes, I had fun once we got the canoe problem settled, I stayed at the rental counter to help him get it settled, I forget who actually did have a credit card with them, it might have been one of our guys if I remember.

After that he convinced us to follow him to a 'mirage' seller of driftwood, which legthened our trip with no results, except we ended up at a saltmarsh. Yes, I had fun seeing the saltmarsh, that's the habitat that I did my thesis work on, but the idea was to show us a place to get driftwood, the saltmarsh was an accident.

We left the plantfest crowd and went on our own collecting trip after that.

Did I have fun on my trip to FL, yes, we saw a spring the next day that was more crowded that the first but, amazingly, had more wildlife. We caught a lot of interesting fish and collected several plants that I'm continuing to keep. The Driftwood place that Does exist sold us lots of (inexpensive) wood that is hard to sink but eventually does, along with some nice petrified wood. We had a great tour of FAN, that was very interesting and certainly helps build an appreciation for where the plants come from.

Does a swinging bunt that allows the batter enough time to reach first base safely count the same as a homerun for your batting average? Yes, but someone always makes a note of the homeruns.

If he is the one pulling the bid together you might have to babysit the group more than you want to, at least as much as you did with us. Keep asking after the particulars, they don't register otherwise.

Am I going to FL with the GWAPA folks again this year if we pull a trip together? You bet. Will we wait for a plantfest to be declared, nope.

Thats why, if he had trouble organizing that, we'd want to know that he had
a LOT of organizational help before committing to a convention.

Also, just so that it's clear to everyone, I don't any of us should or would
hold it against someone whose organizational skills were not up to handling
a convention. A person can have a OT of wonderful skills and attributes,
(not to mention being a very nice person) and still not have the skill set
to run a convention.
