Re: [AGA-mcm] [AGA Convention Feedback] (fwd)

At best, the silent is too popular to not do it and at at
worst it's too controversial to not do it.

The two best organized silent auctions I've seen -- not
that I've seen a lot -- were AGA 2002 and NJAS 50th.

You know how the former went. the latter was in the hallway
outside the speaker rooms (don't ask where the vendor room
was for that show!!).

All the traffic back and forth to/from the talks marched
right past the goods. Excellent way to market.

I'm not sure if someone bringing a lot of plants is bad
from a financial or time perspective. It could depress
prices individually, but that doesn't mean less total
revenue. I'd like to see the breakdown on the auction sales
this year by seller. In Dallas, Ben's plants averaged about
in the middle of the range of the average price of other
sellers' goods despite having brought 50 plants -- the
volume did not appear to depress prices.

When Roger cleaned up at the Houston convention, it was
with a noe half dozen or two bags of marsilea. He was the
highest avg. earner for the 2002 auction, iirc.

I say, run silent run deep (wtih items)
