It sounds to me that Dave is tryingto sound important.  He's willing to help 
us, but it's going to take some sort of serious recongition (and atonement?) 
to get him to do it.  Something along the lines of officially endorsing him 
as the one in charge of the convention organization (if only as the "power 
behind the scenes") vs. Tom or the like.  No doubt he's pissed at the AGA 
for perceived slights and it seems to me that he's trying to express that in 
his language too.

If he's willing to help out with the organization I say let him and 
recognize him according to the level of work he puts into it.
