To me it's a matter of whether the PDF is meant to be viewed or printed. In this archive, it's meant for PRINT only. For viewing, we've got the jpegs+html with the nice navigation.- Erik On Mon, 17 Jan 2005, Larry Lampert wrote:I am no Adobe expert by any means but I would think it would be best to have one tag page per PDF page since you can change your page view to view 2 or more pages at a time in Acrobat. You can also zoom in so you could go the other way with a 2 up format, but this seems to be most convenient. Here's a question: Do you think it would make sense having one "TAG page" per PDF page, or do 2 side-by-side "TAG Pages" for each PDF page? - Erik On Mon, 17 Jan 2005, Larry Lampert wrote:Me too. In fact, I beleive that was aroundthetime Iwas calling you ona cellphone in the middle of the 2002 banquetsoyourlocal party wouldknow the aquascaping contest was now open. Soitprobably would have beenworthwhile to recap the proposal to start. Here's the"latest",incorporating yesterday's talk: 1. This is a CD-ROM containing a. the "prehistorical" issues Vol 1-3, neveravailableas back issuesb. all of Neil's and Mary's issues, nowout-of-printc. my one-shot issue, even though it's stillfor sale(just 'causeit closes out the black-n-white era) d. the out-of-print PAM's? [New Idea] d. Indexes and cross-references for ALL issuesof TAGand PAM asof date of release 2. Technical details on the pages themselves:100 dpiresamples of eachpage, saved as reasonably-high quality jpegs, with HTMLpages surroundingthem for navigation. The pages are NOT turnedbackinto text, and thusnot searchable. We're relying on the indexesfor this.3. For issues not included in the archive(i.e.,everything available forpurchase!), have something on its contents pagethatsays "this back-issueis available for purchase" with a back-link tothewebsite. [New Idea]4. Also release DVD-ROM version that alsocontains 300dpi printable PDFs(but again, based on JPEG images, not onoriginaltext). [New Idea]5. The AGA Website already contains (today!) asignificantly scaled-downversion of the archive(www.aquatic-gardeners.org/TAGIndex):a. It's integrated into the main website andincorporates itsstyle sheets, etc b. No actual articles hosted on the website, justindexes, covers, and tables of contents c. Website version will be modified to havetheTOC'sreport"This issue is available as part of ourbackissueCD-ROM"or "This issue is available for individualpurchase" withappropriate linkes [New Idea] 6. Pricing: I propose $25 for the DVD-ROM and$20 forthe CD-ROM,with a $5 hike for non-members or peopleoutof thecountry. CD'sand DVD's are very cheap to ship.Domestically,it's about abuck-o-five (actually buck-o-six, but theydidn'twrite a song aboutthat in Team America). Foreign is$2.50-3.50, andI have to go downto the Post Office. But I kinda like theidea ofgiving the foreignnonmembers a break and not penalizing themtwice.7. Why it's not going to happen today, andmight nothappen for another6-12 months: a. Need to rescan TAG v.4-10 as originals lostin ahard drivecrash in 2000 before backup. Cheryl justmailed mea nicerset that has the real covers for the firstyear anddoesn'thave my home address pasted on the back. b. Program mods to implement the new ideas, andsplitout theauthor index alphabetically. Also neediconforsubject index.c. baby #2 is due March 1st. So I guess I'd like to see feedback on themodifiedproposal so it can bebrought to a vote & maybe finished in the nextmonth. But if it's a yearfrom now, at least it's official. - Erik -- Erik Olson=== message truncated === _______________________________________________ AGA-mcm mailing list AGA-mcm@thekrib.com http://lists.thekrib.com/mailman/listinfo/aga-mcm-- Erik Olson erik at thekrib dot com _______________________________________________ AGA-mcm mailing list AGA-mcm@thekrib.com http://lists.thekrib.com/mailman/listinfo/aga-mcm
