Too bad though, she just missed the last issue to be layed out by the best
layout editor the ACA's ever had. (JOKE -- actually their new layout
editor will probably do a much better job as she's both a professional
*and* one of the "ACA in-crowd", as opposed to a whiny hack who did it
to learn how things work & spy for another national club.)
My thoughts on all the other messages that have come through...
manning table/friends/etc: The AGA table could actually be a place where
people could relax and enjoy counter-programming to the usual cichlid-only
fare. The tables & vendor room at ACA tends to be quite lively and has
lots of people moving through. It could actually be our gathering place.
I would suggest, that if it were possible, that we have a micro-aquascape
on the table. That really attracts people.
I will also add my own personal anecdote about selling plants at ACA.
Back in 1995, my first ACA, I paid for my airline ticket by bringing a tub
of Java Fern with me and wearing a sign on my back that said "Kick Me for
Java Fern!" Seriously, I sold $200 worth of Java fern in a few hours.
And this was in San Jose too, considered the "worst attended ACA of the
decade" or something like that. People are interested in buying plants.
Question for Larry: Do you have to be registered to walk around the vendor
room and the tables? (Seems like that varies between conventions.)
Maybe one could entice some DFWAPC people to register, noting that they or
the club may similarly make enough money selling plants to offset the
fairly inexpensive $35 registration (I like the added touch that it's $70
for non-members, but only $15 and $25 to join the TCA or ACA,
respectively!).
Babysitting (kids and cameras): Kathy will be off at her sister's dairy
farm in Stephenville (suburb of Dublin, home of Dr. Pepper!) until Friday
night, so there won't be much need for that. Once the A/V is set up, it
hopefully won't be so much of a deal. Unless Larry & the crew want to do
the whole organized Q&A with handheld mics & two extra helpers, it'll
probably be much less of a production than the AGA is. So there may be
opportunities to slip out and hang out with the cool folks...
