Re: [AGA-mcm] Fwd: SFBAAPS: AGA Program Proposal (fwd)
That's waaaay too much stuff going on.
I'd like to see a talk or two on mosses, that would be neat. Claus would
probably be a better keynote speaker on the whole. (Preparation H works
great...on the whole hahaha Scotty SHHT!!)
I don't like the idea that the "mini-buses" would be rented and driven by
the volunteer folks. SFBAAPS should be the one renting them and their
representatives should be driving them. Liability is a wonderful thing.
I've only been to a couple really big conferences, most of them AGA, but
having hour long sessions back to back to back to back to back seems like a
time bomb waiting to go off. I'd rather see half the speakers with more
time to speak and more time in between for movement and gathering. Even 15
minutes between each talk to get to the next one and find a seat is good.
I like the idea of letting different clubs give small "here we are and this
is what we do" talks, but does he really expect people to sit there and
listen to all of that? "Hi, I'm Phil from Carolina Aquatic Plant
Enthusiasts, would you please all shut up and sit down so I can talk about
us? I know we're three thousand miles away from you, but I listened to
yours instead of looking for a friend I haven't seen in two years." It
would probably be better to give clubs that want it some wall or table space
to put up some sort of poster like the AGA/DFWAPC tri-fold Cheryl did for
AGA. Perhaps the panel Q+A would be best suited for Friday night after
Erik's State of the Organization talk.
Sunday should be a nice leisurely breakfast for everyone and then auction.
The sooner they start it the better it will be. I don't know how many
people they're going to not have attend because of a six hour flight back
east.
Regards,
Phil
