OK I am little confused. I am not sure what the DFWAPC has to do with us having a convention in Atlanta? Did I miss something or did you think I said DFW Airport? Anyway Atlanta is just a venue and that can be changed if you want to do it somewhere else. The advantages to ATlanta are Seachem tour (I already talked to Doug about it) and a possible Atlanta Aqaurium tour. Umm yeah it is like we can't think of anyone else. That is exactly right. Who else will generate interest? Oliver Knott, Claus, Kristel, all good speakers but been done before too. Who else can we get that we know can do a good job speaking for a keynote speaker. Who else will generate excitement about the convention? We can take some risks with the other speakers but the keynote has to be a draw and has to be a good speaker. I totally agree we need some new blood. I think we should expand this list membership out to anyone interested in volunteering. I will not do the salestable this year, although I am willing to recruit and train someoneelse to do it. The DFWAPC is petering out lately. The last few meetings have been sortof lame and poorly attended, mostly due to lack of leadership IMO. Ahuge project of this type would either regenerate the club or break itcompletely. And finally, I believe I am among friends here so I will speakhonestly. I am against having Amano speak. It's like we can't think ofanyone else. I don't have any better ideas other than what has beentalked about on this list. Maybe it's time to get some new blood in onthe discussion. I am hoping to get a more detailed proposal from themthis time around. I do think that we are going to haveto revisit the costs. Hotels have raised rates foreerything the last few years. They also seem lessinclined to deal on things.I really would like to have someone try to get a holdof Amano and of course Tomoko to see if they would beinterested in speaking. This will have to wait untilwe get some dates though.I think you have the banner or at least you did and Ijust did jury duty two weeks ago so I guess I am allout of excuses ;-).Regards,Larry--- "S. Andyou just got started, finally, on that householdrepair that you've been "planning" getting around tofor four or five years. Nonetheless, it's time againto start thinking about producing an AGA convention.By our own standards, "We recommended that a draftproposal, including at least the names of thecommittee heads, anticipated location and date, andpossible speakers, be submitted not later than 12months before the proposed Convention start date."Assuming we would have the 2008 convention again inNovember, well, you do the math. So start thinking up places, potential speakers, tasks you've been aching to undertake, folks that wecan bring on board to be part of the productioncrew, trying to remember who the heck has theconvention banner, begin political maneuvering tonot [backspace backspace backspace] get appointed asconvention chair, and start writing up that cribsheet of all the reasons why you can't do this thator the other convention chore (maybe you have oneleft over from the last time you got a jury-dutynotice). sh> _______________________________________________AGA-mcm mailing listAGA-mcm@thekrib.comhttp://lists.thekrib.com/mailman/listinfo/aga-mcm _______________________________________________AGA-mcm mailing listAGA-mcm@thekrib.comhttp://lists.thekrib.com/mailman/listinfo/aga-mcm > _______________________________________________ > AGA-mcm mailing list > AGA-mcm@thekrib.com > http://lists.thekrib.com/mailman/listinfo/aga-mcm > _______________________________________________ AGA-mcm mailing list AGA-mcm@thekrib.com http://lists.thekrib.com/mailman/listinfo/aga-mcm
