Oh yes, that's right. Good point, Rachel. If you peat underneath, about 1/4" coverage, that will compensate for the tendency to raise the pH. The effect on pH of both seems to fade away after a few months of water changes. Being finer grained, I find the Onyx Sand much easier to plant in -- When yo push the stems into the substrate, they aren't as likely to float back up right away.
