Oh yes, that's right. Good point, Rachel. 

If you peat underneath, about 1/4" coverage, that will
compensate for the tendency to raise the pH. The effect on
pH of both seems to fade away after a few months of water
changes.

Being finer grained, I find the Onyx Sand much easier to
plant in -- When yo push the stems into the substrate, they
aren't as likely to float back up right away. Or to put it
another way, the jiggling is more efective with the sand
;-)
