I have had ghost shrimp in my aquarium for 12 plus months.  I introduced them late in the evening (lights out) and shortly after a good fish feeding.  I'm sure I have lost a few to my Tanganyikans but the shrimp are there.  
Monthly I will see one that has jump out of the water onto a glass lid and dried out.  Probably trying to make a fast exit from a predator.  
 
They also survive thur the winters in Corpus Christi, TX. prolifically.
 
Have faith and keep on looking.....
