It depends on what you definition of nutrition is. If the substrate is artificially fortified with water soluable minerals or NPK, then yes it dimminishes. If it is a clay or laterite substrate it was never fertile to begin with. Clay and laterite substrates like Seachems Flourite or Onyx are not fertile. They contain only oxidized minerals. Amano does not disclose the exact mineral or nutrient content of any of his products. Oxidized minerals become water soluable from organic acids, and it does not matter if the substrate is a year old or ten years old...it will still have oxidized minerals.
