Re: [AGA-Member] disinfecting wild aquarium plants

Still used. It's one of the better methods of removing everything from plants. It's also fairly harmless to plants, but gets algae, snails, leeches, bacteria, etc.

Years ago they used to recommend a bath in Potassium Permanganate, I'm not sure if this is still in vogue.

Hi,

What is a good procedure to rid collected wild plants (or plants from a
questionable source) of snails, leaches, and other undesirable stuff? I have
tried using chlorox diluted 1 part with 20 parts of water, and then soaking for
two minutes followed by rinsing in a bucket of fresh water. Crypts are about
the only thing that survives. Amazon swords look ok after treatment, but are
transparent in a week. Floating plants and hornwort are bleached completely in
minutes.
