There could be a conflict here, depending mostly on your lighting. How much and what type of lights to you have? This can affect plant choice and also your definition of sucessful. To me, a tank isn't successful until I can't see the fish for the plants. Note that I didn't say attractive, I said successful! :-) I have a very successful tank right now. It's a good thing I run a powerhead at night, beacuse that makes a small clear spot on the surface to feed the fish in the morning. But it sounds to me like you want a low-maintenace tank without alot of trimming, pruning, or algae. In this case I would stay with a mid-range of 2 watts per gallon or so, and use slower-growing plants like the Echinodorus previously mentioned, and also Anubias and Java fern. Maybe lay out some large, branchy pieces of driftwood, covered strategically with moss of your choice (I'll send you some java moss if you want) then follow the line of driftwood with the plants. Your Discus will be very happy.
