I agree about not wanting to mass market the tapes.  It is a simple matter,
however, to tell John what we plan, and allow him to make his donation if he
so chooses.  My point is that if the two things are handled separately (as
they should be) there is no need for any further obligation.  True
"donations" don't come with strings attached.  If there are strings, then we
can't afford to open that Pandora's box.
