Everyone, I am on the fence on this one, and would like a little more info about cost as I indicate below. There are also a few other random comments which are NOT intended to get us into a protracted discussion. At 09:13 PM 12/01/2000 -0500, you wrote: The last issue was 32 pages and with a duo >tone cover, and the bill came to $1, 625.17. It is interesting how the costs have crept up. I remember the first tags were $500 (50 cents each!).... then $800, then $1200, and now.... > >The issue in which the contest is announced is going to be more costly >because of the labor involved in inserting the flyer. If they are stapled in like the amazon pics, there should be no extra cost. Is this what we are talking about or a loose insert. Either way, I would like to see you have the printer insert this special issue in a plastic wrapper or envelope. The cost may be 25cents extra, but will greatly increase the chances that it will arrive undamaged. >I agree that $5,000 plus is a lot of money. But what is the money for, if >not the benefit of the members? ..... With a nicer magazine, I think we'll get more >subscribers. It will also help to build more interest in the contest. > >I would like to see us build our membership to 1,000. This is a good idea.... which has been mentioned before.... This could probaby be done with a modest investment in colorm but also needs a reasonable amount spent for ads in the national US magazines. I think that it is unrealistic to expect a lot of new subscribers from the UK. >can do it. With a larger subscriber base, color will be less expensive and >we will be able to use more of it to enhance TAG. A larger subscriber base before a significant ROUTINE investment in color makes a lot of sense. With the current subscribers, this issue of TAG would cost each member $7. Actually, that is not TERRIBLY bad. This reminds me of my earlier question: what would the year 2000 printing/mailing costs be including this special issue. We can compare this to annual dues. If it is less than $15, then we are not loosing money are we? After all, it seems to me that we are not talking about $5K , but $3K additional. Mary, if you can layout the costs in this way, it will make it easier for us to make this decision.
