I see this as a _real_ problem. For Mary to
completely shut out such an important paper is a big mistake for our
members. The subset of people who receive PAM and TAG are NOT exactly the
same. Claus has always been completely straightforward concerning the
conditions on his articles. They are available to all interested parties,
and he doesn't charge for them. By telling him that we won't use them
without exclusive rights means that we just completely lose access to this
important source of very valuable information.
What should we do about this?

Subject: Your Article Dear Claus and Ole,
I was disappointed to learn that the same article I
was going to publish had already been printed in PAM. I had intended to print your article, but I'm sure you
can understand that I cannot publish it now that it has been printed elsewhere
in English.
In the future, you need to decide which magazine
you would like to publish a particular article. I cannot accept articles
for publication unless I know that they will not be published elsewhere in
English for a reasonable period of time.
If you would like to publicize your findings more,
I am happy to do so, but you need to submit a different
article.
Sincerely,
Mary McCaw
