AGA Communication

Hi Folks,

I had a thought last night. It has bothered me for some time that because
of the time lag with TAG both in terms of production and mailing and various
mishaps, our members are often the last to know what's going on. We have
been using the APD as an informal method of disseminating information, but
there are many members, myself included who find it too time consuming to
wade through several APD's per day just to look for specific pieces of
information. When I have time, I'll sit down and read a bunch of them, but
I have to say that I often delete LOTS of them without even skimming them.

Would it be possible to set up a mailing list for our members that we could
use to give them information about AGA in a timely manner? I'm not talking
about something that would take the place of either TAG or APD, but just a
way to get information (like the Aquascaping Contest and the convention)
into the hands of our members. At the moment, by the time members hear
about these things, they are old news.

I realize that there are still going to be a few people who don't even have
e-mail, but I am SURE there are many more people who at least have e-mail
than actually participate regularly in the APD (which of course isn't ours
anyway) or feel comfortable surfing the web. I know Erik puts notices of
up-comming events on the web site, but again, I know that I personally don't
check in on web sites often. Something that arrives in my e-mail gets my
attention.

What do you all think? Erik, is this a possibility? I would be willing to
do the administrative end of it if it could be set up that way.

Karen
